La Rallerie fishing lakes A Little Background A Brief History about our Purchase and Sale We bought the house off e-bay in October 2017, and first visited in November. We were delighted to find that we liked the house, hamlet, residents, and the area. At the time, we were working from our UK home office and planned to make frequent trips to France and work from there for some of the year. This did not, however, happen: we only visited on one more occasion (October 2019) before lockdown and our retirement. We have no particular use for the house any more, and have therefore decided to sell it. Probably 90% of improvements have been completed: an able DIYer could achieve the remaining tasks easily, or there are good builders locally (we suggest using British tradesmen). Roads and Distances La Rallerie is a sleepy hamlet of a dozen or so properties by the River Vienne. To the front of the house, the road which connects Gouex to Persac over the Vienne is not particularly busy, certainly by UK standards. Indeed herds of early morning Lycra clad cyclists are more of a hazard - they’re silent. Its neighbouring village is Gouex at just over 1 mile away and is also on the Vienne. More widely, the hamlet is located between the cities of Poitiers and Limoges, close to to the town of Lussac-les-Châteaux (4½ miles) where there is a railway station. The city of Montmorillon, City of Writing (and books) is just 12½ miles away. Distance from Transport Hubs 4 hours' drive from Caen ferry port 4½ hours' drive from Le Havre and St Malo ferry ports 45 minutes (29½ miles) from the A10, the main Paris / Bordeaux motorway There are regular flights to both Poitiers and Limoges airports (including Ryanair), as well as plenty of options for car hire. The nearest airports are Poitiers and Limoges, and both are 1 hour away. Poiters airport is very small (see the image to the right) with two flights a day, so expect delays and personal attention. There is a very good restaurant on the first floor: it is frequented a lot by locals, and becomes very interesting when a flight is about to depart! It's primarily a restaurant with a runway attached, where passengers are tolerated as only the French do!
